In limbo, Ballardians, and the upcoming CCC

Well it's about time for a little more serious post. We'll see how this works out...

I moved, but I don't really fell like I've moved yet. I still have to finish up cleaning down at Lucile St. I think once that is completed I'll feel like I've actually moved. Right now it seems more like I'm in limbo. Should be all wrapped up tomorrow though...

The new place is great. I'm now a Ballardian. Well I'm told that I'm a Ballardite, but I like Ballardian better. It's a pretty sweet little spot. Upper floor in a smaller building. All the neighbors have been really chill so far. I think that it's going to turn out to be a great place for me. Now if I can just get through the last few boxes and get an idea of all the little things I need to buy (found out last night I don't have a can opener) I'll be set...

With the new place comes a new commute. It's a bit longer, takes an hour instead of twenty minutes. But there is an upside to that. I'd pretty much quit reading on the bus since I hardly had time before. I think I'm going to be reading a lot more now though. I've already started on a new book, Cloud Atlas. NESF gave it to me, I think for my birthday, earlier this year. I've been meaning to start it forever because it came highly recommended, but never seemed to get to it. Oh what I have been missing! It's fabulous. I'm only 70 pages in and I'm in love with this book. It's brilliant. I can't wait till I get deeper into it. I get the impression that it will continue to amaze me with each page...

We're drawing very near to the 300th post. I'm not sure if I'm going to do anything special for y'all, but figured I should at least mention it at this point...

Thieves, spikes and Hector Romano

So someone attempted to break into my house yesterday. So tonight I'm going to be putting in some metal mending plates in the window sills - spikes up. Hopefully this will act as a deterrent. However I am starting to think that we really need to get a dog. I've been poking around a bit and decided that a Boxer would be a good choice to protect Lucile. The roommates aren't exactly on board yet, but I'm going to push for it. I think it would have to be a male dog. Then I can name him Hector Romano. But not a white Boxer. I hear they have hearing problems and the last thing that I need is a dog that can't hear me. Just look at that face though! Friendly yet savage.

The world is coming to an end!!!

The skies are bleeding and the ground shakes. The world has come to a standstill and everyone is flooding into the streets in panic. Volcanic eruptions are imminent. We must all join together and stand tall as the giant eagles fly overhead heralding the end of days...

Okay, so the world isn't ending anymore. Which is why I'm able to write this blog. For some reason this morning all Google related websites were down. Youtube, blogger, analytic, search, everything. I was starting to freak out. What would we do in a world without Google? Personally I don't want to live in a world where I'm reduced to Yahoo as a search engine...

I hate getting coffee at work. Not because its bad coffee, but its not great. It's because every morning I go to get a cup there is only about 1/3 of an inch left in the pot. So I'll make a whole new pot and then by the time I get back in there to fill my cup I'm back to square one with a small puddle left in the pot. People around here need to learn to make a pot of coffee and not just pass the buck to the next person...

Quick update on Lucile Street activities...

Chili Cook Off is rapidly approaching. This weekend I'm going to be sending out information about how to register your chili. I really hope to see all of you there stuffing your faces with chili. EAT MORE CHILI!!!!...

I have to brew like crazy this weekend. I need to get 10 gals of IPA and 10 gals of porter done. I didn't do any last weekend, which I now regret. But I work well under pressure. Everything will be ready for the cook off...

Got a call from the city about Lucile Street Summer Fest. It was just a preliminary thing, but I'm optimistic that we'll be about to get the street permit. I will be using the Cook Off as a spring board for Summer Fest stuff. We'll be calling on people to chair different committee's and also starting to rally bands to perform. If you know any musicians or other acts (I'm pretty open) let me know and I'll contact them...

"I think we had some bands...there might have been a BBQ" Festival Recap

Okay, so I'm a little back logged on the blogging so I'm going to make this short and sweet...

Lucile Street Festival was a HUGE success! We started off early in the day cleaning, setting up and the like. Things really got kicked off with the arrival of our first BBQ Cook Off team, "Kink Street Crazies": Morgan, Cat, Angie, and Casey (pictured below). Now we've got to give props to the crazies because they are the ONLY team that showed up in costume. They were also the team that went on first, initiating the festivities. They also won best dessert! Thanks Kink Street Crazies!!!!

The next highlight was our first band of the day Incogneato! (pictured below). These guys were awesome. By far the most fun stage presence of the bands that we had. If you want to hear more of Incogneato! check them out online at http://www.myspace.com/incogneatotheband . Thanks Incogneato! !!!!

After Incogneato! we had our second BBQ Cook Off entry from "Adam's Family": Rebecca, Jake, and Randy. This was a solid entry which ended up taking both Best Appetizer and Best Cold Side. Thanks Adam's Family!!!!

Now this is where I should mention it was HOT! Something like 90 degrees. We utilized the willow shade as much as possible but it wasn't enough in the end. This is where an unexpected phone call changed the course of the festival. Friday night while I was grocery shopping and grabbing the last things I got a call from Dane offering up the use of two collapsable shelters. I hadn't even thought about that! So here's where we have to give mad respect to Dane and Janelle for coming through with the shade. Thanks Dane and Janelle!!!!

Here is where everything starts to get a little confusing. Johnny Durango showed up and did a set (pictured below, notice Parker loungin' we'll come back to him) that was awesome. There was a little confusion getting everything set up but once it was all said and done it sounded great. Check out Johnny at http://www.myspace.com/jdurango . Thanks Johnny Durango!!!!

Now this gets a little difficult because it seems that people quit taking pictures...

The next BBQ Cook Off team to hit up the grill was "You Guys" which, and forgive if I'm wrong here, was David, Dane, Marek, and Christina. Solid entry all around. They took home the titles of Best Hot Side and Best Entree. In a VERY close battle they also took the All Around Best in Show! In the end the difference in scores was from highest to lowest was only .6 overall, so I have to say this was not an easy victory for them. Thanks You Guys!!!!

The last band we had, The Nihilists (you remember Parker from before), was unscheduled. Turns out they were just going to practice and decided they might as well practice with a live audience. These guys rocked. They were the cause of our first noise complaint and our second. (It was still only 8 o'clock, so we politely dismissed the complaints). Great set and a nice way to round out the music. The Nihilists are online at http://www.myspace.com/nihilists . Thanks to The Nihilists!

We also need to give a big shout out to Morgan for taking so many great pictures. If you want to see more check em out at www.flickr.com/fullgrownraiju Thanks Morgan!!!!

Finally I just want to thank everyone else for showing up. Without each and every one of you it wouldn't have been the amazing success that it was.

THANKS!!!!

PS...we'll also be doing it next year for any of you that missed out this time around and it will be bigger and better.
