Riding the 7 #1

Saturday November 10th, 2007
So I was coming back from Kirkland and there was a young man, probably about 22, on the bus. He was sitting in the far front of the seven and his eyes moved about like an insects. He was wearing tattered sweats and a hoodie that was missing the ends of the sleeves. He also was not wearing any shoes. This bus was packed mind you and I couldn't go passed the first 5 feet. So while we're traveling down Rainier this woman in a wheelchair, generally disheveled in appearance with long tangled hair, wearing a pair of corduroy pants with a white sweater (both of which looked like they recently survived a fire), then takes off her shoes and gives them to this boy. He looks at her blankly as she says "Try them on, they'll keep your feet warm" to which he just continues to stare at her. She repeats this 3 times before he puts the shoes, which are more like open heeled slippers on to his feet. I have never seen a human smile quite like that man did.

Introduction

What is Desomnia?
Desomnia began as Desomniac, a cleaver combination of two of my favorite pieces of music, Desolation Row by Bob Dylan and Amnesiac by Radiohead. However over the years it has come to be a little more than that to me. At this point I would describe desomnia as our way of overlooking the unpleasantness of life or a sort of amnesia to the desolation around us.

What is Drull?
It comes from the overwhelming amount of pain, fear and anguish that has come to exist in our everyday lives. However it takes looking through all of this desolation to find where there is still hope, an under lying peace. Drull has been defined as a desolate and foreboding sense of forgiveness. In essence, drull is the act of looking at anything that is barren, solitary, or deprived deep within us or those around in order to find the inner beauty it represents.

What is Desomnia in Drull?
The short answer is: It's a blog. The long answer is: The blog itself.
