Strange to think that it's been over two years since I've had anything to say here. I don't remember making a conscious effort to stop blogging, it just seemed to trail off. Maybe it was just replaced by other things in my life that I found more important. It's perfectly natural to expect that things will change in time, so why am I back here now?
At first I thought about starting a new blog. After so long I thought that this place was done and finished, a testament to someone that I used to be, left lost between the 1's and 0's in some vain sense of obligation to posterity. In fact I did start a new one, three of them to be honest. Well, I got as far as giving them a title and then trying to write a first post. With each new attempt I found that what I was really looking for wasn't something new, it was the same thing that drew me here in the first place. If you asked me to define or explain it I'm not sure that I'd be able to do it. It's just a feeling.
Isn't that what this place has always been to some extent. There's never really been a coherent story line or even a loosely established form of chaotic prose. Sure at time it may have seemed that way but really in the end it's just a feeling.
(I just accidentally closed the window I'm composing this in and thought all was lost. Thank you Google for preserving text in recovered windows.)
When I started this blog over 6 years ago now I posed the question "What is Desomnia in Drull?" I'm still not really sure how to answer that any better now than I did then, but I'm glad it's still here.
I can't help but wonder, is anyone still out there? If you are I'd love to be able to tell you what to expect, but I'm not sure yet. I have been writing more lately, so that's probably what you'll see most of for now. There's sure to be the random musings of the past as well. It wouldn't be the same without it.

Reformatting
So as you probably noticed I did some reformatting this morning along with adding a new banner pic. I'm interested to hear what you think. Better? Worse? Let me know.

A Sour Civil War Killed The Dream of Lying Awake Backstage.
I'm a bit sour on blogging lately. I'm hoping that by blogging it'll help me get over it. It usually works...
Seems like half the country is pissed off. Really pissed off. I've heard mention of civil war half a dozen times in the last week. Strange to think about a civil war in the USA. I think that the state government should pass some measure as a fail safe. Essentially that in the event of civil war the state of Washington would then become an autonomous nation that is to remain neutral. I bet Cali and Oregon would sign on with us. Let everyone else fight it out while we just chill. It's the west coast way...
We're all gonna die out here. We just don't now when...
Had a dream last night that I was house sitting my Grandma's place. She was out of town for like a month and I was trying to make sure everything was exactly how she left it. Somehow things got out of control and there was a massive party. I kept telling everyone they shouldn't be there, but no one listened to me. They all just kept inviting more people. Even her neighbors were in on the scene. Moral of the story: Grandma don't ask me to house sit for you, no matter what I do it'll end up badly...
As I was tring to fall asleep last night I couldn't. I often find myself thinking about random things when this happens. Last night I thought about domesticated farm animals and what the proper techniques are to avoid inbreeding. Then I thought about whether these things we considered in past ages. Finally I got bored with that thought and moved on to defensive architecture. Turrets and the like. That shifted to muslim architecture. Beautiful mosaics and minarets. When I move to a farm I hope that my property is protected with turrents with a giant minaret in the center. So I know which way to pray...
I went backstage at the Paramount on Sunday. It was this tour thing I went on with PMRob. Kinda cool. Definitely gives a different perspective...

This is what happens when I'm at home at 9:15pm on a Friday night blog (Originially titled "I'm sorry")
I hate to do this but I have to put the scrabble word verification for comments up. I've been getting a lot of spam comments lately. I don't want any of you to have to deal with them anymore than I want to. So you have to type the word. Still comment though. Or don't. I get the impression that many of you reading this have never commented. It's cool. I appreciate that. There are many blogs I read and don't make myself known. Anywho, sorry about making it more difficult, but ob-la-di, I'm sure you'll all get over it.
Side note: Love the haiku comments (example here). Don't ever stop, mysterious haiku poet hiding in the shadows of the internet. You're one of the reasons I'd never make approval needed for comments. The world needs your words and far be it from me to interfere.
Second side note: I'm deep into a sort of "retro" kick. Lots of Jawbreaker and Lifter (don't shun the myspace, it's still good for music). Reminds me of being 15, only different. I guess I can more see where the writers were coming from.
Third side note: Sorry for the recent lapse in service. It's been a few days. I feel like I lied to you. As a result I am going to launch myself out of a cannon into a steel orca. BUT only if you can acquire a cannon large enough to fit me into (I'm a big guy), you have a steel orca (I'm going to be very picky about this one) and you have a wide array of safety gear (again very picky). If you meet my standards I'm down. Hell, I'll even blog it.

Only some of these images are real
Last night while I was sleeping I saw a map. It was a large rectangular piece of wood raising in various places to suggest topography. There was one large ridge that crossed diagonally with two smaller ones extending from its sides almost like a cross. Some of the mountains seemed to drop off in massive cliffs while others slowly graded down to the edge of the map. A few rivers were indicated by blue lines the snaked through the lower elevations. One the map there were about half a dozen red dots, marking some kind of important locations. A few of them were clustered together, while the majority of them were spread out. I cannot remember the significance of the red dots or of the map itself...
I get a lot of strange comments nowadays. Part of me is starting to think that I'm going to have to moderate them, but I really don't want to have to do that. However it's kind of bullshit that I get a comment everyday on the same post in some asian language or people spam it up with links I'd never follow. There are some that I really enjoy though. Bah...
I'm getting my new phone today. I'm interested to see how it works out with blogging. I got the G1 so I'd have a keyboard. I'm hoping that it's really easy to add pics and things like that. We'll see...
Speaking of pictures, here is a few that I particularly enjoy...

Welcome, death, pain and art
About 25% of my viewers over the last month have been outside of the United States. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you. I hope that by reading my blog you find that we're not all as bad as our government has represented us abroad...
I finally threw out the ficus. It was dead. Had been for a couple weeks. I'd given all I could and it wasn't enough. Let this be a lesson to all of you: Don't let your anyone put miracle grow on your plants. Even if its struggling. It won't help...
I've got a horrible kink in my neck today. I must have slept on it wrong. Probably is that it's starting to give me a head ache...
I'm going to see the Michaelangelo exhibit at the SAM tonight. Should be good. I'll give y'all a run down tomorrow...

What is Desomnia in Drull???
Those of you that have been around from the beginning may remember that when I started this blog I gave you a very vague idea of what to expect:
What is Desomnia in Drull?
The short answer is: It's a blog. The long answer is: The blog itself.
Now that I'm 300 posts into it here at Desomnia in Drull I've asked a few people who regularly follows the blog to send in a small blurb about what they think the blog is really about. If I didn't include you, that doesn't mean you can't participate. Feel free to leave comments about what YOU think this blog is really about...
ElizaBeth:
"[Desomniac] generates a curious persona via his blog in that people might make the mistake of thinking him outlandish and irreverant, shocking for shock's sake, when really it's quite the opposite. [Desomniac] is very thoughtful and gives a lot of attention to getting various sides of a story before presenting his own opinion. He's not afraid to speak his mind, enter into a discourse on something inflammatory, or literally share his dreams in a public space where all of the above could be easily misinterpreted. He manages to avoid the pitfall of being repetitive and boring which often spells the death of a blog since both the writer and his readers tire of the subject matter. By keeping it varied, sometimes superficial and sometimes deep, sometimes mainstream and sometimes esoteric, Desomniac in Drull offers a reliable source of unpredictable distractions from the monotony of a 40-hour work week."
Spam Scout:
"Desomnia in Drull is the Venn Diagram center between dreams, local politics, music, watusis, Buck Hunter, and religion - written by a honky white devil with nothing to lose."
Rebecca:
"The first three things that come to mind when I think of Desomnia in Drull - Random. Eclectic. Thought provoking. Through this blog [Desomniac] challenges his readers to think, to engage in dialogue and share his life and culture. Now, [Desomniac]'s culture may not be the same as anyone else's, but it exists nonetheless. ;) It's only by keeping up with Desomnia that I remain as connected as I am to the world beyond my immediate sphere of influence. There are so many elements that combine to create Desomnia in Drull. I love all of them."
P.:
"one mans rants and raves about the trivialities of his life, and obsessions."
2x4ster:
"From Bhangra to Bob Dylan to Buck Hunter; from faith to fate to Facebook; Nanerpus to nursery rhymes to NWA - this blog engages everything significant that is tilted, in need of tilting, or downright twisted in our withering world. Stating so may be cliche, but the uninitiated must be made to understand (and maybe we all need a reminder on occasion) - Desomnia in Drull is ultimately a blog about honey. Or this."
Desomniac:
As for me, I guess Desomnia in Drull is as close as you're going to get to the slipstream of my consciousness. I use it as a place to express whatever is on my mind at a given time. Whether that be an introspective dreamscape, a political rant, questions that really have no answers or mindless babble, it all has a home here.

Unmonitored Outlet
Lately I've been wishing that I had an "unmonitored outlet". A place where I can just rant into space and no one will ever hear what I say. Where words just overflow into a vast sea of unconscious thoughts waiting for someone in a later generation to uncover that long lost concept I'd left behind.
The blog was the first attempt. However the more that I got into to actually blogging the more I wanted people to read or see what I was posting. This led to it being more prolific than the "UO" I was hoping for. However I felt that there was still some way to accomplish my goal.
I started a twitter account for that very reason. I thought, "I'll just write whatever I'm thinking about!" That was short lived and survived mostly on musical lyric quotes that I was listening to at the time (you'll notice the same of many blog titles here). And then I realized that what I was looking for didn't come in "tweet" form (exception: "poo tee weet") Now I mostly just use it for local news and as a tool with other blogs.
It's only recently that I remember how it used to happen. I was packing boxing, I'm moving, and I ran across a stash of old notebooks. How had I forgotten! I've been so used to working with small note pads and scraps of paper with my last project I'd completely forgot about notebooks.
Technology doesn't replace our unconscious. It just gives us a small glimpse at the trends of society. What runs between all of us is so much greater than technology and to think that I'd forgotten that is blasphemous. I'm back to my notebooks needless to say.
So in the future I think that I'm going to publish "unmonitored outlet" content, however it will be monitored (I realize the paradox). I'll be honest a lot of it is just gibberish, but every once in a while I come across a gem that leads to something much larger. That's how all my projects start essentially. This way you'll just a sneak peak of whats to come.

Banner
So I'm trying out new ideas for a banner. What do you think? The one that's up right now was done by NESF...

I'm also toying with this one (I'd have to add the text, but I'm struggling with image editing software right now)...

Any other thoughts? I'm actually wide open on this one. It could be a pic of almost anything. Let me know if you have any ideas...

I took em down. They became too chaotic. I guess they struggled to determine the point of this blog. I struggle too.

Who brought the witch to the Gay Parade? Does she need surgery?
This was the first weekend in a while that I was out and about on the town. It was good. I am starting to feel like a member of society again. But as my dear friend told me society might not have been entirely ready for me to come back. While I was out yesterday I found myself suffering from a sort of turrets. Borderline(maybe a little further) comments were coming from my mouth left and right. One such instance was at the Fremont Street Fair on Sunday. A 20-something woman was walking by us. Completely disregarding the heat of the day she sported a Gothic black dress, long stockings and a brimmed black hat that rose above her head into a point. Now this woman was obviously a witch, or at least wanted us all to think that she was. So I called her out as such. There were also a couple of situations involving women with unusually large breasts and an elderly women in the PCC wearing a helmet, but I feel those were much more reserved...
I've very close to beating Trauma Center: Second Opinion. I thought that I was going to beat it last night, but even after taking down the "final" formation of GUILT and successfully saving the patient it went on to the side track that I guess I have to finish now. I cannot express how much I'm loving this game. Well I could tell you that I went out and bought the other version of it. That kind of suggests my obsession. DR. STILLES!!...
Today it's all about the Gay Parade. The Scout and I were talking about it yesterday and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. "They gather up all the countries flags and they burn them!" It's just such a good album. Hopefully Of Montreal's next album will be more in the vein of their early stuff. I'm still disappointed in their latest...
On Saturday I found two things that should forever be combined: Buck Hunter and Deerhunter. I spent 2 hours at Redline in West Seattle going between Cryptograms and Microcastles while pilling up buck carcasses in a virtual world. First time I've played since the injury. It was so good to get back at it that I went again on Sunday...
I love that Neutral Milk Hotel was able to help save a carousel. I hope that they use this experience to put together a new album. We've been waiting for over 10 years now. I guess it's more likely to be a case of words on a gravestone: "I waited but you never came"...

Cover your eyes
I was in a piss poor mood yesterday. Today is a little better for a few reasons...
I started a Facebook fan page for Urban Phantom. I love this bear. However I would like to know if the sighting on Beacon Hill was for real. I'm really hoping to get home and find him in my back yard chillin' next to the brewery...
I bought groceries last night (thanks dad). I remembered the milk but forgot honey...
Lately I've had the inclination to use my blog as a place to vent a lot of frustration. For the most part I've been extremely reserved. But there are many things that have angered me recently...
I am a very lucky person to have access to the NESF. When everything in my life seems like a chaotic mess it always seems to ground me and put things back into perspective. Without it I think that my life would have crashed and burned long ago...
I love America. Sometimes I wonder if she loves me back...

Đó là vô nghia
I just learned that I'm not a part of Generation Y, now I'm in the Millennial Generation. I guess it makes sense. I never really cared to be labeled a Y. However this comes from an article that I was reading about the emergence of Millennial voters and what will be their lasting impact on American politics. Pretty interesting stuff...
I've forgotten to mention to you all that we (*upon reading this again I'm not sure why I said "we" and not "I" but instead of editing it have chosen to just add this little bit of filler*) have a new address. To make it easier for everyone you can find me at www.desomnia.com now. Some guy already had desomniac.com. Not exactly sure why he has it. I might have to pressure him out of it...
I finally was able to wash my foot. The skin peeled off in large chunks that I considered keeping in order to make a life sized mold of my foot. Then I decided that was nasty...
I'm going to see Wolverine tonight. I loved the X-men movies, so I'm hoping this is just as good. I haven't been to a movie theater in a long time. I think that the last thing I saw was the Simpson's movie. Hopefully nothing has changed too drastically...
I really need to do more writing. I have this horrible habit of starting a project, getting really excited about it, and then letting it just fizzle out. I don't know why. I guess that I need to work more on my follow through. So since I never finish anything I'll throw out another excerpt. This is from the project that I was doing about the 7:
A young mother sits facing center
A book of Vietnamese characters lays open on her lap
As she tries to teach her child what they all mean.
“You need to teach them English!”
An elderly woman, who could be her aunt, yells
“They won’t go nowhere here without English!”
The child replies, “Đó là vô nghia”
I hope that I got my Vietnamese translation right. But if I didn't would you know the difference? I might post something else for you later. I ran across this story that I wrote like 10 years ago. Could be fun...
If you haven't checked out the recent post on indoorsprout.com you should. There is some great pics of the garden's progress...

A little more serious perhaps?
So after that last post I figure that I should put up something of value...
My dad started a new blog to showcase his building designs. It's pretty cool stuff. You can check it out here....
I haven't been on a bus in over three weeks. It's very strange for me. I hope that when I finally get back to it that the 7 is just the same as it's always been. Luckily for me I don't think that my presence or lack thereof will have any effect on the 7...
The President announced 17 billion dollars is cuts from the federal budget. There is a lot of uproar that it's insignificant. However the figure as small as it may seem is larger than the GDP of 85 countries on the planet. So while it may seem like a drop in the bucket, 17 billion is still a huge number. Don't forget that...
I cannot wait for the Beatles albums to be remastered. They're being released 9/9/9. I'm already starting to plan the festivities...
And I think that I'll close with a little "happy" corn...

I guess this wasn't worth much in the end either. Oh well...

The World According to a Desomniac (100th Post!)
My name is Nathan and I have been an avid reader of "Desomnia in Drull" since it's inception in late 2007. In celebration of its 100th posting, I have put together a collage of highlights from the past. For those who don't read this blog, it will hopefully serve as a good introduction into the mind of Desomniac. For fans of the blog, it will be a chance to relive some of the best moments.
The World According to a Desomniac
Nothing would make me happier than to have a vat of pho broth brewing in my kitchen all winter long.....The blade came full circle, nearly hitting his comrades, and heading straight for me. I was incapable of moving as the saw blade cut through my right temple......I'm going to the hospital right now. I'm waiting for my ride. Hopefully everything turns out okay and it's just something stupid like heart burn. But I'm not terribly optimistic......I really need a giraffe......Now I don't know about these asshole theives, but I'd rather not turn our great country into a fascist haven where all our rights are oppressed and you're nothing more than a battery for the state.......Finally I found the words, "Who is the mother?" The nurses chuckled slightly, "Well you are." I looked at the other two nurses who just smiled at me. "Well then who is the father?" "You are."......Many people now have mentioned that my blog is either "dark" or "depressing". I guess I just don't see it that way. Too all of you who do, I encourage you to search for the drull in it all. Keep in mind that through all the desolation there is still a sense of forgiveness. It's that forgiveness that gives us sanguine composure to keep going........Gobble Gobble. Eat more turkey. It's good for you...On my desk you can find the following things: An empty coffee mug, two "kinyo" speakers, a man named Reynold smiling from a business card that reads "THE MAGIC TUXEDO", a can of air, a stapler, an old bottle cap and piece of paper with the quote "I have always imaginged that paradise will be some kind of library" - Jorge Luis Borges........I think that it would benefit all of you out there to take the time today and read a nursery rhyme today. Here are a few recommendations: "Hey Diddle Diddle", "Baa Baa Black Sheep", "Hickory Dickory Dock", "Little Miss Muffet", "Rub a Dub Dub"......Where does everyone stand on Cannibalism?....I've found that when some people don't like my answer they will pause, for a long time.......I really hate people who call me and have no idea what they want. I'm current listening to this guy fumble around his shop deciding what he needs to order. Ridiculous.....Ozzie's is a wretched, wretched place....I think that my sister should get a goat. She doesn't think so. She's actually very much against the idea. The strange thing here is that her husband agrees with me. And for any of you who know my brother-in-law, you'll agree it's strange that we'd agree on anything. So I have to ask, if two people with completely opposite ideologies can agree about the goat can it really be a bad idea?....This is the 50th blog post. Yeah me, I guess...If ever given the oppurtunity and training I would walk on burning coals. But just not right now...I had a dream last night. I lived with Nathan. I think we were on Capitol Hill. The moon was everywhere. At one point I put on a pair of pants that were so tall they covered my face and then began to faces through the zipper. Nathan couldn't stop laughing. He laughed more when I told him about it today...Mmmm, coffee......People do weird things on the toilet. Actually I can't say that. I've done all of those things...Just as I was getting ready to drift back into the dreamworld I realized two eyes staring blankly in my direction, and who else but Swirly Joe....I know I know, it's hippie bullshit, but here me out. Illegal marijuana is our state's 6th largest cash crop, above cherries....A customer just accused me of slacking off! HAHAHA! Little does he know I'm writing this as he's ranting in my ear...We're thinking about getting a whole pig for the BBB. I was looking into getting a live one to butcher in the back yard, but the city won't let me keep around the house for a couple days, so I've got to call Bob, hopefully he can help us out...I have a Chinese fortune that I keep up at my desk, "An unexpected phone call will bring good news." I'm still waiting for that to come true...I want to move out of the city and live on a farm. I would have chickens, a goat, a dairy cow named Henrietta....Well I guess that's it today. Just camping and poop...

Labeling
So I've been working on the blog today. I went back through and added "labels" to the majority of the post. I haven't got the oldest one yet, but soon enough I will. You'll also notice that there is now a label directory on the lower right of the page. Hopefully you all find it helpful. I know my blog titles can be a little esoteric...

Grey clouds loom outside. But the people are willing to forgive for a little sun...
Somethings off with my predictive text. Making this very painstaking...
There is a man wearing the most amazing helmet. Its metallic red covered in white stripes and glittering blue stars. Makes me wonder if the White Stripes had seen this helmet and decided to start a band...
